Correcting the Code, Chapter 2 - From Statement to Strategy: Manifestos in Digital Art
Friday 4 December 2026, 6pm | HEK (Haus der Elektronischen Künste), Basel
The manifesto is usually read as a declaration. The second chapter of Correcting the Code looks at it as a working tool: a way feminist and gender-marginalised practitioners in digital art have organised, set strategy and shaped thinking on technology, embodiment, networks, labour and gender, from cyberfeminism through glitch aesthetics to data feminism.
Writer and cultural theorist Sadie Plant, author of Zeros and Ones (1997), is joined by artist, coder and researcher Winnie Soon, Associate Professor at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, and co-author of Aesthetic Programming, who takes part online. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Marie-France Rafael (ZHdK / IfCAR). Further speakers to be announced.
Correcting the Code: Women, Gender, Technology and the Transformation of Digital Art is a co-production of HEK Basel and the Institute for Contemporary Art Research (IfCAR) at Zurich University of the Arts, supported by Pro Helvetia. The programme opened on 1 October with Rebecca Allen and Lynn Hershman Leeson.
