Invest in half a day to propel your career forward and support personal professional growth.

Monday 7th July | The Warburg Institute

8:30 am - 1:00 pm

Programme

“It is our right and responsibility to write ourselves into the future. All organising is science fiction. If you are shaping the future, you are a futurist. And visionary fiction is a way to practice the future in our minds, alone and together.” - Adrienne Maree Brown, writer, activist and facilitator

Bringing together leading voices from across the cultural, business and academic sectors the AWITA BUILD YOUR OWN ARTWORLD conference invites participants to explore the power and practice of intersectional feminist leadership. The morning will open with an artist-led conversation, setting the tone for a programme that blends practical workshops, peer learning, and reflective dialogue.

Rooted in values-led, cross-disciplinary collaboration our half day conference offers the potential to shape your own future. Join us to build a personal daily practice that nurtures your core qualities and explore the evolving landscape of investment and leadership.

Learn more about BUILD YOUR OWN ART WORLD

AWITA’s annual conference brings together women working in the professional arts. The objective is to support the talent pipeline through a day of personal and professional development.

Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Zeitz
  • The inaugural AWITA Conference took place at Phillips in 2023. The day was less conference, more a toolkit for professional women.

The event, chaired by Melanie Gerlis, commenced with a warm welcome from Phillips Global Chairwoman Cheyenne Westphal. Throughout the morning, pioneering voices including Hilde Lynn Helphenstien (popularly known as Jerry Gogosian), Victoria Siddall, Touria El Glaoui, and artist Cornelia Parker, among many others, shared their insights and wisdom with fellow pioneers in the art world.

In the afternoon, off-site workshops delivered practical tools and skills. Delegates also had the chance to get professional headshots taken by our talented photographers.

  • In 2024, Christie’s hosted 200 women in The Great Room, populated with furniture sponsored by Roche Bobois.

The day was designed in a fresh and dynamic format to create a toolkit rich in practical takeaways, case studies, honest conversations, and hands-on workshops.

Arguably Africa’s most influential female in shaping perceptions of contemporary art Koyo Kouoh kick started the day, followed by a roll call of inspiring changemakers.

5 practical workshops ran across the afternoon at sites in and around St James.

"Convening is essential. Convening women in the arts is imperative. The more we connect our respective networks and interests the more we can transform the field."
