‘Kiss the Storm’
Exhibition with Daisy Parris | Royal College of Physicians |11 St Andrews Pl |14 - 16 October
Sim Smith is delighted to announce the launch of special project, Kiss The Storm, an textile installation Daisy Parris in collaboration with Textorial.
In Kiss The Storm, Parris's practice is pushed into the medium of textile, an evolution of their large scale abstract paintings which will see a mammoth 5-meter unique textile installation. The project pushes forward the material elements that exist in their paintings, interlacing threads of their daily practice of stitching, collage and text application with the woven form. There is an affinity to the ritual of textile in throughout Parris’s work and this material masterpiece will take the next step in their practice by providing a visual sensation that sets the form apart from painting. Hand-knotted, woven chains of varying thickness are interleaved to compose Parris' visceral mark making in a textural relief surface. Parris will manipulate the textile in way that is synonymous with their practice.
This event also marks the launch of Parris’s first monograph with essays from Dr. Hester Westley, Sue Tompkins, Gina Birch and Skye Sherwin.
Only four minutes from Frieze, this is a great opportunity to support another AWITA member.
